What's a social enterprise?
A social enterprise is a business with social objectives. As a social enterprise, Bloom Op Shop pledges that if we make a profit, 100% of any profit made to local organisations every quarter, as well as engaging in mutual aid in our local community.
What does 100% of profits mean?
We're putting on our accounting hats for a moment. Profit is what is left over after overheads (like rent, utilities, day-to-day expenses) and wages are paid from the revenue we receive.
Our staff are paid, we are not structured to take volunteers, and we do not take donations, instead we offer our community a voucher for recycling their textiles!
We are not always guaranteed to make a profit, but make as much material donations as we can!
What are your prices?
The average price for an item at bloom over the last 3 years was $2.99, which includes pay per kilo items.
You may see a super special piece here and there slightly higher than $15, but 99% of items will remain below that, with around 70% of our items under $9 and 50% under $5.
Our Pay Per Kilo is $10/kg! To give you an idea, the average tshirt is around 200 grams, and would cost around $2.00 at our Pay Per Kilo. Some of our items have imperfections, but plenty of life left, some even still have tags and are perfect!
What do you accept?
Please see our Clothing Intake/Recycling page!
What sizes do you stock?
This is one of our most frequently asked questions. As an op shop, we rely on donations to stock our shelves and racks, so have no control over what we receive. We regularly do callouts for plus size and men's clothing, which is our most requested items, and at any time have a range from 4-24.
When/where do you accept clothing, shoes and accessories?
We accept items during our opening hours at our South Brisbane location!
We do not take donations, and instead give out a voucher, which you can read. more about on our Intake page! If you do not wish to receive a voucher, we will pass one on to a local organisation on your behalf!
